The start of this year’s fishing season was a bit unusual. In recent years, we had gotten used to heavy rains before the opening, which meant high and murky water on the first day. This year was different. Heavy rains with wind and thunderstorms hit right on the opening day. Only true enthusiasts stayed by the water. We managed to catch a number of smaller zander and a few pike. After the season opened, the weather turned sharply warmer, and fish activity decreased. Still, we caught some fish. Smaller pike responded quite well to River2Sea topwater lures, zanders are biting mostly late in the evening on slim Daiwa Tournament and KiXtery L wobblers, and occasionally we catch a better perch – on a nymph or Spinner Tails. We haven’t tried for catfish or asp yet.
